7 Sparkling (not-Boring) Business Plans Perfect for Mompreneurs

Would you rather:

A | Have a colonoscopy
B | Have a wisdom tooth removed
C | Write a business plan for your mompreneur business
D | Oversee a birthday party for 17 middle schoolers (with no help)

OK, I know it’s not much of a choice and that you’re probably all choosing option A  (you’re in hospital, so, someone else is in charge of dinner, right?).

But a business plan could be the missing link between you and stellar blog success.

And so I went on a Frodo-style quest to bring you back something precious. Here are 7 beautiful business plan templates, all accompanied by helpful blog posts, to help you get your business-planning geek on.

If you don’t love at least one of them, I’ll eat my tiara.

Think business plans are boring? Think again. here are 7 beautiful business plan templates that'll put the sparkle back into your mompreneur business

What is a blog business plan?

All of these business plans are slightly different, but they all help you gain a sense of clarity about who your business serves and how it serves them; your business' values and goals; and how your business presents itself to your ideal clients (its branding).

Why you need a business plan

When we first get the idea of setting up and monetizing a business, it’s easy to be swept away with each different idea that comes your way. But having a business plan gives you a sense of direction and helps you set long term goals. It also helps you evaluate each business decision you encounter.

Health Warning

Just like finding the right pair of jeans, it might take a while to find the fight business plan template for you.

And once you’ve made your business plan, don’t feel that you can’t ever change it. Online business changes so quickly, we can’t afford to be tied to a rigid business plan.

And, lastly...

Don’t make your business plan too detailed, especially in the beginning. When I first started this blog, I wrote a business plan that made the 1944 Allied Invasion Plans look ‘thin’. This initial business plan caused me nothing but stress as I failed at every part of it.

The Blog Business Plan

By Regina from ByRegina.com.

What is it?

A comprehensive 36-page business plan for those who take their blog as seriously as a C-Section.

Who would it suit?

Mompreneurs who love thorough planning.

What’s great about this Blog Business Plan?

This is an obscenely detailed plan that includes social media strategy, competitor analysis, and monetization techniques.

But don’t be scared. Regina holds your hand through the whole thing and makes it as easy as calling for take-out. Phew.

And I love that there’s a section on ‘Continuing Ed’.

As a recovering course-junkie, i know It’s so tempting to buy course after course to learn new skills. But spending your child’s college fund on random courses does not qualify as ‘continuing ed’. You need to be strategic. And Regina’s here to help you make a plan.

And….(just one last thing, I promise). When you sign up to receive the printable business plan, Regina sends you a link to her Free Blog School which is hours of video guidance on setting up your Squarespace or WordPress site. Gold. Pure digital gold.

It’s great for mompreneurs because:

It’s going to save you time, money and effort in future. All business decisions and purchases can be checked against your overall master plan (I can't say 'Master Plan' without feeling like a Bond villain).

Ok, I’m convinced. Where do I find it?

Mompreneurs who don’t love planning but know it’s important.

What’s great about this Blog Business Plan?

It comes with a video! I repeat: it comes with a video!

Also…

If you don’t need to convince investors to back your business, you probably don’t need to fill out all the sections of a traditional business plan. Nora’s ‘Mini’ business plan concentrates on what you do need. It’s laser focused: much like I am whilst eating Nutella.

Business Plan for Creatives

By Alison from Wonderlass.

Alison is quirky, no doubt, but underneath that tutu and colorful hair, is a sharp business woman who’s built up a following of obsessed fans. Me included.

What is it?

‘A Super Awesome Business Plan’ Google Doc you can download and edit.

Who would it suit?

Creative mompreneurs who think business plans are boring. Allison’s post includes the words ‘zombies’, ‘aliens’, and ‘hoards of birds’. We’re through the looking glass here, ladies. Anything could happen.

What’s great about this Blog Business Plan?

It boldly goes where no other Blog Business Plan has been before. For example, she asks you to think about your blog schedule, your workflows, and legal protection. This is important stuff, mama!

It’s great for mompreneurs because:

It’s easy to fill in because Allison has had a stroke of genius in how she presents her business plan template.

Instead of sections followed by an intimidating blank box we have to complete, Allison has filled each section with prompts, questions, and examples that help you complete the plan as you go.

Ok, I’m convinced. Where do I find it?

The Bangin’ Blog Business Plan

By Melyssa Griffin.

Melyssa is the exact opposite of me: She’s young, beautiful, optimistic, loves people more than pastry, and probably does Yoga. (Eugh! I know, right?) But she won my heart with this business plan and this is the one I used many moons ago when I thought, ‘Holy Nutella, I’m going to start a blog’.

What is it?

A fun workbook to help you create a serious-as-cyanide business plan.

Who would it suit?

If you fancy sitting down with your best friend and writing a business plan over coffee, this one's for you.

What’s great about this Blog Business Plan?

And lastly, it’s a beautiful workbook.

Ok, I’m convinced. Where do I find it?

Wow - that's a lot of pretty printables.

Whichever business plan template you choose, just remember that it's for your eyes only (unless you need to attract investors or explain a major Creative Market binge to your husband).

It should be a helpful tool not a suffocating edict.

You got this, mama.
